I am Half mexican, half white. I dont speak spanish, I am white, but I have hispanic eyes(deep brown and long, thick eyelashes). I have always been really attracted mexican guys., are mexican guys interested in woman like me?
I'm not like white-trash white...I love the mexican culture and I do know some spanish. I just don't speak spanish fluently, but that probably doesn't make a difference.

I speak quite a bit of Spanish, but mostly Puerto Rican Spanish, and do not know a lot about Mexican culture, or differences in the various words.
I am not looking for something simple like "Hola. Como estas hoy?".

I am doing a tamale project and the teacher would like us to explain how tamales effect the mexican culture. Also if you have time can you give me some tips on them because we need to talk about them but it can't exceed two minutes. THANKS!

I have to write a 20 page research paper on any aspect of Mexican culture. Because it is a lengthy paper and will require a decent amount of reading and research, I'd like it to be something interesting that I will enjoy learning about. As of now, I've been thinking about religion or mythology. Any suggestions?

This is Calvin. I know that the Mexican culture and Chilean culture are pretty similar. But my question is about what is the similarities between the people in Mexico and in Chile? People in both of these countries speak Spanist as primary language.

And what's the difference between these two countries? How are the cultures/traditional similar and differ from each other?

Its a shame to be part of the mexican culture and not know a word in spanish. They like Tejano music like Selena, Bobby Pulido, Tropa F, intocable and so on but dont speak spanish. Cmon guys if you like tejano at least know how to speak some spanish. If you dont know who Los tigres del Norte are, then you aint Mexican.

My friend and I were talking to a Mexican Gentlemen, who we could tell, did not take too kindly to us. Anyway, long story short, some harsh words were exchanged and he walked away. While leaving, he turned around and winked at us. We were confused, then a bystander told us it was a sign of disrespect in Mexican culture. Several other bystanders confirmed this. I looked it up online but can find no definitive answer. So, was he disrespecting me or not?

I ask this question with an open mind, I've heard it all...I have been cussed at, spit at, ridiculed, laughed at, you name it, because I look mexican and do not speak spanish. I know what I have learned in school and that is about it. It never occurred to me that this is a "problem" for people who speak spanish, until I was about 14, when I started working. People told me I should be ashamed of myself, and would make me cry at first. I wanted to learn so bad that I would stress about it in high school and try to learn and do all my other school work, but it is very hard to learn. Now I feel like I am only trying to learn to please others and not myself, it would be great to know, spanish, but a part of me has a feeling of resentment, that I am being forced to do this. If I didn't look so mexican would I still have to learn? My father tells me I don't have to, this is america, he speaks spanish, and now never uses it, he feels that I shouldn't have to, but i have mixed feelings...he doesn't know what its like to be made fun of and not even be able to understand your own co-workers. Im also mixed with philipino, american indian, and irish, but this means nothing to anyone else but myself because they only see a mexican girl. I wish I could be more informed about my mexican culture, but people have told me even if I learn spanish, I didnt grow up with the culture and would never fit in anyways...anybody have any thoughts on this? something i havent heard before? Im not asking for anyone to be sorry for me, but it would be refreshing to hear something encouraging, or helpful.

If so, do you feel other mexicans give you attitude or look down at your for not know spanish or being into the latino culture a lot?

I'm mexican and I don't know spanish and neither does anyone in my family. We have been in this country for over 3 or 4 generations now so we are assimilated as you can get. We don't celebrate mexican heritage or culture and don't eat or like mexican food anymore than other types of food. I'm 1/2 mexican, 1/2 filipino but look 100% mexican and many other mexicans always assume I speak spanish and when they find out I dont I get some sort of dirty look or attitude it seems like more times than not. I didn't grow up around other mexicans b/c i lived in a predominantly white upper middle class suburb. I was just wondering if there are other mexicans or latinos out there that don't speak the language, are not into the culture, and are basically "white washed" as some have said like me. And how do you feel about it?
Also I was born and raised in the SF Bay Area and currently live in San Diego so I come into contact with a lot of mexicans straight out of Mexico litterally. And when I do occasionally venture south to Mexico I feel a similar response from people there.
I definately consider myself american b/c I don't identify with mexican culture at all but it's like i'm stuck in between the two. Some white people, not the majority or that many, make assumptions about me and where I'm from b/c how I look. Then on the other hand Mexican's do the same. So to some white people I'm not that american b/c my skin color and to some mexicans I'm not mexican b/c the way i act.
Also this isn't a problem I have all the time or even that often, but when it does occur it just bugs the hell out of me.

San Diego is basically a Mexican city and therefore people speaking English are disrespecting Mexican culture. This is very offensive

My ex-boyfriend was emotionally abusive to me, and he loved his Spanish class. He talked about everything Spanish: from language to culture and everything in between. (I took French). He would sometimes even talk in Spanish. Now, everytime I hear someone say anything Spanish or talk about the Spanish/Mexican culture, I freak out by thinking immediately about my ex-boyfriend. How can I overcome this?

our city - Hanoi. There is no mexican restaurant around, and our targeted customers are foreigners who come to Hanoi. I just want to know if you guys love mexican food? if you came over here, would you like to go to a mexican restaurant here. We would make everything mexican. Could you guys suggest the name for the restaurant, i don't want something like texmex, want something relating to mexican culture. Please help, i will choose the best answer. Thank you in advance.
