When I hear Mexican immigrants speaking English, half the time they sound super sexy like Salma Hayek and have that really soothing voice, and half the time they talk through their nose and every word sounds flat.

Is it because these people are from two very different parts of Mexico?

The mexicans I've met are hard-working and have great work ethics, They try to get by with what little they have and don't bother anyone.
They have great courage to drop their lives in Mexico and come to a racist country which hardly respects, a country whose language they haven't mastered.
If the shoe were on the other foot, I would be scared and wouldn't leave my native country at all.
Not all the Mexicans I've met are illegal, so why do Americans stereotype so much?

I'm sick of hearing "You need to learn Spanish because there are so many Spanish speaking people here." Why should the U.S. spend billions of dollars a year for foreign language studies, particularly Spanish, if the Mexicans are coming here? Just because there's an influx of illegal Mexicans jumping the border, we have to emphasize on Spanish?? I don't think the Mexican government would be so kind if many Americans moved to Mexico. They probably wouldnt stress English studies just to better comfort Americans living in their own country. Shouldn't immigrants be required to know basic English, instead of virtually requiring the American population to learn their language?
Although it is good to know Spanish, it shouldn't be the preferred language to learn? For example, many parents in the U.S. make their kids learn spansh BECAUSE of the influx of mexicans here. it's nonsense to accomodate foreigners(many illegal) so royally. I want to learn Italian, but no, Spanish will be better for my future because of this issue
you don't understand; I acknowledge that is better for my future and in some cases I will be payed more, but my point is that shouldn't be!
It shoudn't be that Spanish in particular will help me the most in my future; it shouldn't be that knowing particularly Spanish will earn me a higher paycheck, it shouldn't be that Mexican immigrants are influencing America so much!

By the way, for another person, if knowing basic English was made an actual amendment, wouldn't it be a clean slate? The politicians wouldn't be able get the advantage from the immigrants that way.
Although not all spanish speaking people are mexicans, can you tell me that if there were no illegal mexicans in the us, spanish would still be as popular in the us? no, you cant. I just think that if the mexican immigrants were finally kept at a limit, and the borders were enforced, the mexicans in the us wouldnt be able to say "there are so many of us here, so that's why you guys should learn our language instead of french, italian, chinese, etc. but whatever, i've decided to stop added on to this post because after reading the feedback, I've begun to realize that any argument in favor of the mexicans can be struck down with a counterexample just as valid, if not more valid than the original. It's just not right that so many mexicans are in our country, and even more so that we are accomodating them, despite whether or not english is hard to learn. WE live here now, and have lived here for the past centuries, so either respect where you're invading or get out please!

why? its actually considered an insult to the land you come to, if you come to live there and not bother to try and communicate with the people, not bother to learn their heritage and way of life, and you dont respect their flag and wave yours in their face...im tired of not getting hired at jobs because i dont speak spanish....thats just me...and im not racist i just dont like people coming here and waving a mexican flag in my face when i just spent the last 5 years in iraq fighting for the american flag....i dont know....if i went to mexico and marched down the street waving red white and blue, id get jumped......lol, but i wouldnt do that because i respect other peoples countries and ways of life...

mujer alta, good point, but i really dont believe that the mexican immigrants "love to countries at the same time" ...i get mean mugged by them hen im at wal mart, every business one of them is fortunate enough to own gets decorated with nothing but red white and green, and the thing about "the home language is easier to resort to when your frustrated or nervous" is true, much like ricky ricardo when he gets mad on i love lucy, but they dont just speak spanish when their angry, they speak nothing but, REFUSING to even learn ANY english, they walk into an american bank to conduct business, and start spewing spanish to the white teller, and if the teller doesnt understand them, they get angry and threaten to sue, (my gf is a banker ive seen it first hand) also, i dont think they love this country because if there was a draft for the iraq/afghan war, and illegals were allowed to be drafted, i doubt any of them would go fight for this country

They try to play both sides of the fence when it comes to the immigration issue. They claim that they are no different from the European immigrants that came here in the late 1800's and early 1900's, yet unlike the European immigrants, they do not want to assimilate. The European immigrants learned English and became Americans. The Mexican immigrants, on the contrary do not learn English, and in turn have children that are taught Spanish at home. It makes me absolutely sick. Living in L.A. I see this all of the time. I'm not saying that they are bad people - many of them that I know are very nice - but this is highly irresponsible and detrimental to our country's future.

I have witnessed this alot in Daly City,CA and the peninsula.And by the way simply because most Filipinos speak English when coming to the USA from the Phillipines does not make them any "better" than the Mexican immigrants who barely speak any English.

Does it make any sense that when there are people here from all over the world illegally, and all we can talk about are the Mexican immigrants?

I'm not mexican, but it's seems to me like all the questions people post are about mexican immigrants. Do you feel the same way about say, salvadorean immigrants as you do about mexican immigrants?
