Why do people say Puerto Ricans speak a "Ghetto Spanish" compared to Mexicans?
I hear people say that Puerto Ricans and many other Island Countries in the Caribbean speak the Spanish language in a "Ghetto" way as opposed to Mexicans who speak Spanish in a Clear and understandable way.

Can someone explain why people say this?

Is it legal for illegal Mexicans to stand outside their homes drinking on the public street sitting and standing around where their car is parked ? Playing their spanish music very loud and talking very loudly in Mexican language or press 2 talk ? They said I called police, something very bad would happen to me ? Is this a threat ?

I have realized that various Americans have a very different concept of how a Mexican looks , than how we Mexicans think we look. So im trying to make kinda like a research work about how people think a Mexican look like. We obviously can look very different from each other, but what kind of person you imagine when you hear the word "Mexican"?

They pretend to make us believe we mexicans, are still Aztecs who speak nahuatl.

Whenever I hear that accent (Castillian I think it's called), I can't help but think that the Spanish are fruitbags. They sound queer, don't they? Whereas, Mexican Spanish sounds masculine and it's often evenly paced. Do Mexicans think lowly of the Spanish because of their gay accent? And do you think it's justifiable to say that Spanish no longer belongs to the Spanish if it sounds so corrupt and wacky like how they pronounce it?

I'm doing a presentation for my Ethics & Values class. My group is doing stereotyping. How do you stereotype different ethnic groups, specifically Mexicans? This isn't meant to hurt or harm. It is an effort to get people to think about this and to know that it is an ethical issue. I need information on how this is both harmful and helpful. I know that this is a harsh, tough topic to speak about, but I need all the help I can get.

do mexicans speak "original" Spanish? or is it mashup of other launguages?

You might think that since Aztlan is a Nahuatl word and Mexico is also a Nahuatl word, we all Mexicans are Aztecs.
If you think that, I might think that California, Nuevo Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Montana, or Tejas, are Spanish words, then all inhabitants in those states are Spanish.

I've noticed a lot of Mexican-Americans (either born and raised in the US or came to the US as a baby) are damn good at Spanish and can downright switch from an American accent in English to a Mexican accent in Spanish. But do they ever get so good they can fake out real Mexicans?

I could never figure this one out. Some Mexicans consider Americans lazy, but they don't even have the mere will power to learn the language of the country they are illegally in. It seems that everywhere I go, I see a Mexican that doesn't want to speak English. Am I the only one that thinks these people really need to wake up and smell the coffee?

What is the difference between an illegal immigrant coming to the US for a better life and an american selling drugs for a better life? If the end justifies the means then why do people talk down on drug dealers for breaking the law and not mexicans for doing the same thing?

Ok I'm not trying to diss on mexicans I'm just wanting your opinion. (I have a lot of mexican friends so I'm not racists or anything) At my work there are always people who can't speak english and it bugs me so bad! They are always wanting special privlages cuz they don't know our language. Like when I'm taking their order, they want someone else to take it, I really hate that. I know that they are differnt dialects and I noticed some of the mexicans at my old job had some difficulty conversing with the south american spanish speaking people. I speak Moderate Mexican-Spanish not fluent and was wondering if that would get me by in spain, Travelling mind you not trying to work or anything

Many on here claim that the pro illegals always pull out what they call the "race" card,yet all they ever mention is mexico and illegal mexicans.And when they talk about deporting illegals they are quick to shout "send them all back to mexico" how do they know they are all mexican and not from another latin american country.

I thought it was a blatant attempt to convince weak-minded people to think breaking the law was ok, and to think otherwise meant you are a 'racist'.

I think a day with out a mexican, would expose the companies that illegally hire them because the want ads would suddenly be bursting and the gov't could easily see who the illegals worked for.
I also thought it was 'racist' as MANY LEGAL immigrants from other countries do the low end work because of language barriers and disparate educations.
I married a mexican so I don't want a day without her, but without the illegals?

Spanish Language in the World? you cant really make it out, I would say the best English spoken language is Spoken by Americans, and the best spoken language is Spoken by Mexicans, when I say best I mean it being more understandable and clearer and cleaner.

I'm sick of hearing "You need to learn Spanish because there are so many Spanish speaking people here." Why should the U.S. spend billions of dollars a year for foreign language studies, particularly Spanish, if the Mexicans are coming here? Just because there's an influx of illegal Mexicans jumping the border, we have to emphasize on Spanish?? I don't think the Mexican government would be so kind if many Americans moved to Mexico. They probably wouldnt stress English studies just to better comfort Americans living in their own country. Shouldn't immigrants be required to know basic English, instead of virtually requiring the American population to learn their language?
Although it is good to know Spanish, it shouldn't be the preferred language to learn? For example, many parents in the U.S. make their kids learn spansh BECAUSE of the influx of mexicans here. it's nonsense to accomodate foreigners(many illegal) so royally. I want to learn Italian, but no, Spanish will be better for my future because of this issue
you don't understand; I acknowledge that is better for my future and in some cases I will be payed more, but my point is that shouldn't be!
It shoudn't be that Spanish in particular will help me the most in my future; it shouldn't be that knowing particularly Spanish will earn me a higher paycheck, it shouldn't be that Mexican immigrants are influencing America so much!

By the way, for another person, if knowing basic English was made an actual amendment, wouldn't it be a clean slate? The politicians wouldn't be able get the advantage from the immigrants that way.
Although not all spanish speaking people are mexicans, can you tell me that if there were no illegal mexicans in the us, spanish would still be as popular in the us? no, you cant. I just think that if the mexican immigrants were finally kept at a limit, and the borders were enforced, the mexicans in the us wouldnt be able to say "there are so many of us here, so that's why you guys should learn our language instead of french, italian, chinese, etc. but whatever, i've decided to stop added on to this post because after reading the feedback, I've begun to realize that any argument in favor of the mexicans can be struck down with a counterexample just as valid, if not more valid than the original. It's just not right that so many mexicans are in our country, and even more so that we are accomodating them, despite whether or not english is hard to learn. I already speak English and Spanish (Mexican dialect) fluently, and I want to learn another language. I have a lot of Filipino friends, and have been told that filipinos are basically asian mexicans. So, is it a difficult language to learn?

since there are so many mexicans in this country...my other choices are french, german and spanish

We're going to Mexico so I can meet her father and his side of the family. I'm a rather alto y flaco fellow, and I wasn't blessed with the dark complexion Mexicans enjoy. I speak some Spanish, but what else can I do to try not to stand out so much in her motherland? I'm already working on growing a mustache, but I don't think that will be enough. I don't have a panza, no sombrero, and authentic Mexican comida is probably going to tear me up. Suggestions?

Many of the Mexicans in American are illegal and they should not even be here and they are breaking the law, so why are we accommodating their language? The more we do this the lazier they have to be. In the late 1800s and early 1900s many non-English speaking immigrants, from Asia and Europe, came to the U.S. and they learned English because that is our language that we speak in America, not Spanish. I think that these immigrants who want to be here so badly and break our laws, use our country's services (schools, welfare etc) could at LEAST show our country a little bit of respect by learning our language. Why is that so much to ask, I mean it is not like they have to learn English and were formerly speaking Chinese. Spanish and English are very similar so why is it so much to ask for them to just learn to speak English.

Stony I never said the were lazy but they are being lazy by refusing to learn English, most of the European and Asian immigrants who came here in the 1800s and 1900s learned English as quickly as possible. Why not the Mexicans?

So do all of Central & South America. Why is our nationality being ignored for this generic nonsense?. It's the Chinese, the Americans, the French, the Italians, the Spaniards, the English, the Germans, etc. We're Mexicans, Panamanians, Colombians, Cubans -- we are Hispanic because we speak Spanish. We are not Italians, we are not Latins, we don't speak Latin.

I have a big mexican community where I work. I want to learn a bit about the language. I want to know what language to learn. I know there are the mexicans and then there is spain. I want to learn the language the mexicans speak.
