In Spanish class we have to write a 5 paragraph essay on the food and eating customs of a spanish speaking country. I chose Mexico but you dont have to do that. It needs to have an introduction and conclusion, and 3 body paragraphs that include special foods, eating customs, and when breakfast, lunch and dinner are served, and whats eaten for each. I'm in the 8th grade so it doesnt need to be too like smart sounding, but it should be good. THANKS!

If mexico is so great why are you here. go back to it.

I heard Obama is a Muslim and that means he is not from America? If he is a Muslim what country is he from and can he still be the president of america. I heard in church that he might be a terrorist from Iraq where we are having a war for christ our sawvior and redeemer. Is Obama like pontios pilot? Can Christians get reparations because of all the wellfare checks we are giving to muslims and they come from mexico and have babies and make regular people speak mexican american?

My friend was born in Germany but moved to Mexico when she was young, and speaks both German, Mexican, and English. Her family moved to Canada when she was finished school. I was talking to her recently and she did not know who Hitler was, and had never heard of the Holocaust. I am wondering if this is because she went to school in Mexico, and the school systems are poor and she only finished up to Junior High, or if this has something to do with the fact that she is strictly Christian/Mennonite.

i want the language to be in english..i really want to watch a movie based on mexico, mexicans or mexican american
it can be anything horror comedy history etc ??

Here in California I have noticed that most Mexican Americans refer to other Mexicans as "Spanish". Why? Just speaking Spanish doesn't make one Spanish. Being from Spain makes one Spanish. I speak English, but I'm not from England so I'm not English. I almost get the feeling that Mexicans here in California regard the word Mexican as an insult. Why? Being from Mexico makes one Mexican just as surely as being from Italy makes one Italian.

would she be raped, tortutred, or killed by Mexican police who routinely abuse guatamalans immigrating into mexico?

What does Mexico do to protect it's native culture?

When I hear Mexican immigrants speaking English, half the time they sound super sexy like Salma Hayek and have that really soothing voice, and half the time they talk through their nose and every word sounds flat.

Is it because these people are from two very different parts of Mexico?

Who else feels the same way i do when i say i'm sick and tired about all the bad talk about "Anchor Babies" should be stripped of citizen ship and how Mexican's will burn in Hell? All those lame jokes. People say "I'm not against the Latino's only illegal one's". Do you agree with that or do you think it's a bunch of racist bull and their trying to cover it up?
For all you know it all's i'm an US citizen born and raised both my parents are white. I do know what the word illegal means, my husband was born in Mexico!

The mexicans I've met are hard-working and have great work ethics, They try to get by with what little they have and don't bother anyone.
They have great courage to drop their lives in Mexico and come to a racist country which hardly respects, a country whose language they haven't mastered.
If the shoe were on the other foot, I would be scared and wouldn't leave my native country at all.
Not all the Mexicans I've met are illegal, so why do Americans stereotype so much?

Are ppl just being racist when they berate Mexican immigrants?

Spaniards look like Italians...why do they think they are white?

Italy + Spain = Mexico

By the way, our flag is the original one!! Mexico first became a country in 1828 and Italy was not yet a country till 1861.

I would learn Spanish if I went to Mexico, so what's wrong with them? We even offer free classes and they don't bother. So we have to put everything in Spanish.

So I've done a little research and am so confused why they don't still speak spanish. They were a colony of Spain for about as long as Mexico was (300 years) but mexicans still speak spanish. And why in the heck is english an official language?
Also do they plan on making spanish their official language again (like it was once). Are they doing anything about it?

What are the different ways (in Spanish) that Mexicans refer to white people? I'm looking for derogatory terms, polite terms, "correct" terms, anything.

More importantly, as a white female who speaks Spanish (rather, trying to become more fluent), how would I refer to myself?
And as long as everyone's stuck on being PC, I'm referring to Caucasian Americans.
I'd like to point out that I'm NOT referring to Mexicans as a race, and am asking specifically about people from Mexico. Hence, Mexicans. I mean no disrespect.

Do people who live along the coast in Mexico have a lot of the same mannerisms of Californians above them? It would be so hot to meet a Spanish speaking Mexican guy who surfs. None of the Mexicans I know right now in Cali do that. I want to meet a guy who surfs for some reason because it reminds me of my dad and I always grew up at the beach watching my dad surfing. :)

Past immigration - Immigrants came into this country LEGALLY and immediately began adapting to the new culture. They wouldnt even teach their newborn children the old language because they wanted them to completely assimilate into American culture.

Current invasion - Illegal aliens sneak over the border, don't bother to learn the language or the culture and leave it up to the state to teach their children english.

Past immigration - Immigrants were checked very closely at Ellis island to ensure they had no diseases.

Current invasion - Illegal aliens are bringing in diseases such as TB and the bubonic plague.

Past immigration - Respected that they were now an American citizen and obeyed the law. Respected the American flag.

Current invasion - Illegal aliens bring in violent crime and gangs. Disrespect the flag by stomping on it, burning it and flying it above their mexican flag. Have an idea that the southwest US belongs to Mexico.

This is an INVASION people. NOT IMMIGRATION!

I live within 1000 yds. of the mexican border and I can tell you its is not guarded I have at least 100 illegals a wk. come to my house and ask for water and they are not the least bit afraid of being caught. They have been told by others how big a joke our border is and they even have a sense of arrogance about them when they talk about our border they actually think mexico still owns this land.

I want to learn how to make great mexican foods. I know of some dishes, but I am looking for something that is not made here, and is native to Mexico.
I would like actual recipes, or something I can look up! The landscaping rice on toast does not come up. que es esto? That is that?
Thank you Theresa S. I agree. I have never tried mexican seafood. But I will! Thanks again

First off let me say that I am a proud support of immigration reform. My ancestors were welcomed into this country, endured hardship, and then prospered, and i feel that every person from every country on earth deserves the same treatment. I feel that the United States should have more liberal immigration laws with Mexico, and other countries around the world. So just to be clear I am not a bigot.
My question is this; When debating with conservatives about immigration, 9 times out of 10 they always bring up the fact that Mexican-Americans do not want to speak English as their primary language even though English is the unofficial majority spoken language. When my ancestors came to the United States from Eastern Europe in the early 20th century, they maintained the pride of their heritage, but learned the language of the country they moved to, to better integrate into society. So why do Spanish speakers seem to feel that keeping their pride about their heritage means not learning English, which seems to hamper their ability to move up in the work place.

So Mexican-Americans can you explain this to me a little bit, so that I can better support the cause of Immigration reform, against bigoted right wingers.

Ok im mixed moms Mexican and dad American. I speak a little and understand everything prefect but when i was younger my dad told my mom to stop speaking spanish to us. It was sad

But when i go to Mexico people look at me badly because i dont speak Spanish and im Mexican

What do you think?

I know they speak Spanish in Spain and like Italian in Italy, but do they speak Mexican in Mexico?? I didn't know Mexican was a language.

I want to be fluent i Spanish by living with a Hispanic family. I know there are universities that offer exchange programs, but I do not want to go through a university. Is there anyway I could live in Mexico and just pay a Mexican family board to learn Spanish?

I'm 100% Mexican, but I have lived in the U.S. since I was 9 months old and I've never been to Mexico ever since. My point is I know English (I went to school from kindergarten through 12th grade) AND Spanish (my parents only know Spanish so they taught me Spanish), but I REALLY wanna learn the Japanese language.

My question is, would it be easier to learn Japanese with English explanations (like grammar and such) or with Spanish explanations?

I work at a mexican restaurant and the cooks gave me a nickname. I asked them what it meant and they said there's a comedy show in Mexico with a character that looks like me. They described him as the mexican version of larry the cable guy.
I don't speak Spanish but the name they call me sounds like "nun-yo."
Any idea what character they're talking about? I'm curious.

I am not native speaker but I want speak like one.. I am studying english but I want to know tips for speaking as a native speaker in English, I am mexican and I live in mexico, I can't afford go to another country, I just took a course and I did a bachelor in english as a foreing language but my teachers were not native speakers.. please your help.

I know that the 16th of September is independence day for Mexico, but what are some things I should write about for this prompt? Thanks for the help.

illegal or not wont it be more practical to learn the countries primary language before moving there
if you were moving to mexico you'd learn some spanish

Many on here claim that the pro illegals always pull out what they call the "race" card, yet all they ever mention is mexico and illegal mexicans. And when they talk about deporting illegals they are quick to shout "send them all back to mexico" how do they know they are all mexican and not from another latin american country.
p.s just a quick note to let everyone know that i'm female.i know has nothing to do with the question but hate those that assume I'm a guy because of my username.thanks

When i try to call to a mobile number in mexico i hear a woman saying something like this: suy emada serratrans de liba du son. (I think its completely wrong the way i write is, but this is what i can hear) What does it mean?

My Dad told me and my brothers to talk English to people from Mexico in Restaurants or stores, im a 21 year old Mexican-American in San Antonio Texas, My family says if they speak spanish to you , speak in English to them, they tell me this isnt a foreign country,

Pepsie, WHAT?
Steeven, unfortunately this problem is much deeper than you think.
Yet I even live far removed from Mexico and the U.S.
anyone else, don't pass by! Tell as much as you know regarding the matter

I was in mexico and I was brought down by the mexican police, they said that I had stolen their last chicken, but I am not too sure they were speaking mexican. What should I do? All i can say in mexican is "Where is my burrito?"

I'm sick of hearing "You need to learn Spanish because there are so many Spanish speaking people here." Why should the U.S. spend billions of dollars a year for foreign language studies, particularly Spanish, if the Mexicans are coming here? Just because there's an influx of illegal Mexicans jumping the border, we have to emphasize on Spanish?? I don't think the Mexican government would be so kind if many Americans moved to Mexico. They probably wouldnt stress English studies just to better comfort Americans living in their own country. Shouldn't immigrants be required to know basic English, instead of virtually requiring the American population to learn their language?
Although it is good to know Spanish, it shouldn't be the preferred language to learn? For example, many parents in the U.S. make their kids learn spansh BECAUSE of the influx of mexicans here. it's nonsense to accomodate foreigners(many illegal) so royally. I want to learn Italian, but no, Spanish will be better for my future because of this issue
you don't understand; I acknowledge that is better for my future and in some cases I will be payed more, but my point is that shouldn't be!
It shoudn't be that Spanish in particular will help me the most in my future; it shouldn't be that knowing particularly Spanish will earn me a higher paycheck, it shouldn't be that Mexican immigrants are influencing America so much!

By the way, for another person, if knowing basic English was made an actual amendment, wouldn't it be a clean slate? The politicians wouldn't be able get the advantage from the immigrants that way.
Although not all spanish speaking people are mexicans, can you tell me that if there were no illegal mexicans in the us, spanish would still be as popular in the us? no, you cant. I just think that if the mexican immigrants were finally kept at a limit, and the borders were enforced, the mexicans in the us wouldnt be able to say "there are so many of us here, so that's why you guys should learn our language instead of french, italian, chinese, etc. but whatever, i've decided to stop added on to this post because after reading the feedback, I've begun to realize that any argument in favor of the mexicans can be struck down with a counterexample just as valid, if not more valid than the original. It's just not right that so many mexicans are in our country, and even more so that we are accomodating them, despite whether or not english is hard to learn. WE live here now, and have lived here for the past centuries, so either respect where you're invading or get out please!

There is a skit where Matt Foley (Chris Farley) the motivational speaker goes to Mexico and talks to a Mexican family, speaks Spanish, and as always is hilarious. The thing is that I can't find it on You Tube or Hulu (free stuff on Hulu). Does anyone know where I can find this? I actually want to show it in my Spanish class. B-)
