Contributions Mexican Americans have made to the culture of the United States. Contributions to consider are political action, food, holiday traditions, vocabulary, and fashion. (Choose one of these categories as a focus.) and write a brief write up to explain the historical aspect

Why is it that Mexicans in Tijuana speak English but in San Diego they cant? As soon as I came back into the United States, none of them could speak English. Do they only send the dumb ones to the US????

First off let me say that I am a proud support of immigration reform. My ancestors were welcomed into this country, endured hardship, and then prospered, and i feel that every person from every country on earth deserves the same treatment. I feel that the United States should have more liberal immigration laws with Mexico, and other countries around the world. So just to be clear I am not a bigot.
My question is this; When debating with conservatives about immigration, 9 times out of 10 they always bring up the fact that Mexican-Americans do not want to speak English as their primary language even though English is the unofficial majority spoken language. When my ancestors came to the United States from Eastern Europe in the early 20th century, they maintained the pride of their heritage, but learned the language of the country they moved to, to better integrate into society. So why do Spanish speakers seem to feel that keeping their pride about their heritage means not learning English, which seems to hamper their ability to move up in the work place.

So Mexican-Americans can you explain this to me a little bit, so that I can better support the cause of Immigration reform, against bigoted right wingers.

Should a Mexican women who is in the United States on a Green Card, register her US born daughter with the Mexican consulate and get her a Mexican passport, when her American husband tells her that she should do that? Should she only speak Spanish to her daughter, if that is what her husband tells her to do.

I personally believe English should be the Universal Language for the United States...however, there's alot of accomodating for spanish-speakers!!~! I can NOT go to Mexico and demand they speak English ---what's up with this???

I am so sick of hearing how poor Mexico is and that is why they come here. And that many years ago this was mexico, etc etc. Fact is, its not. Why is it so hard for mexicans to come here legally and learn English. If they did they would be respected. Walking around in America with the mexican flag saying they demand to be treated equally when they are here legally, speaking in spanish, is not going to help them. Also, why is it that they are leaving mexico beacuse its poor and run down, yet thats what they turn their neighborhoods they move into in THE UNITED STATES! I would think they would want to respect it more, not turn it into mexico.

1)Many Puerto Ricans Speak English and Spanish, They choose to speak in Spanish because that is their niche. If they spoke in English they would be considered another rap group or a sellout.
2)Geographically, Puerto Rico is alot closer to the U.S. than Mexico. Thus, there is a higher probability they will be influenced by the U.S.
3)Reggaeton sounds alot closer to American rap music than Mexican music.
4)Daddy Yankee has a house in Miami, Florida. I seriously doubt he has one in Mexico.
5)Puerto Ricans can come and go to the United States without any problems. Furthermore, a U.S. citizen can travel to Puerto Rico without a passport
6)If the U.S. adds a 51st state, Puerto Rico would be on top of the list to qualify.
7)Puerto Rico is still considered a U.S. territory, just like old places in the west before they became states.
8)The national sport of Puerto Rico is baseball. In the United States, baseball is one of the major sports. In Mexico, soccer (futbol) is the main sport.

Mexican United States is the official name of Mexico
Spanish is the official language in Mexican United States.
Is Mexico the largest Spanish speaking & Catholic country in the world?

If they reside in the United States then they most likely speak three languages. English, Spanish and Nahuatl. Most Mexicans don't know that when they speak Spanish they are actually using a lot of vocabulary from the so called Aztec language. As many of you may know. Mexicans are basically a combination of the l Aztec Warrior and the Imperialist Spaniard from Europe. They use a lot of words from the Nahuatl language and dont even realize it. Mexicans speak a hybrid of the Nahuatl language and Spanish. Now three with English haha.

I'm mexican.
I was born here in the United States (Pasadena, CA to be exact)
So lately there has been a bunch of idiots on TV talking about how Mexicans are ruining the country by coming here illegally.
Um.. what about the illegal Asian (which there are many), Cuban, Canadian, European, ect.?????
Last time I checked the plaque on the Statue of Liberty says "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

Also... EUROPEANS HAVE BEEN IMMIGRANTS SINCE THE 1400's!
Just because you've been born with light skin makes you a higher class??
I have Native American blood in me..
So wouldn't that make me more American then these stupid Europeans who came over and stole the land from my ancestors??
I think the media is brainwashing people. Being mexican you get A LOT of the bullsh*t. I was born here in AMERICA but I still get treated by the way I look. WTF is up??
