  1. california, nevada, arizona, new mexico, and texas used to be mexican territory. when the Mexicans were defeated in Texas after they killed the soldiers in the Alamo (texas rebelled and wanted to become a seperate republic "lone star state") by some American general, america wanted these territories and seized all the territories previously mentioned. he gave the mexicans there one choice___leave or become american citizens, so in truth, THE mexicans did not cross the border, the border crossed the mexicans

  3. The Mexican Revolution caused a lot of social instability in Mexico around then, so there was a large wave of immigration from Mexico to the US southwest. There were jobs here, and Mexican immigrants were initially welcomed, even courted for these jobs. Eventually the Mexican workers became a scapegoat for Americans who couldn’t find jobs. Sort of like now.

I don’t have a source. It is just something I know.

  4. The same reason German, Irish, Dutch, Italian etc. etc. immigrants came to the U.S. in the 1800s . . . for the chance at a better life. Lots of land available to farmers, strong industry for willing workers, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, etc. You know "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

  5. 1815 was the start of Mexico’s Independence from Spain. Which means those with the money (The Spaniards and their supporters) saw the writing on the wall and either fled back to Spain or to other countries.

  6. Actually, they didn’t come to the US in 1815 because the US hadn’t expanded that far yet. The spanish began to colonize the Southwest after conquering Mexico. The Southwestern states were originally populated by native tribes such as the Ohlones/Costanoans. Who knows at this point who had it before them.

California was only under Mexican rule for only a few years befor the US took it.

  7. it might have had to do with the war of independence. recall that mexico declared independence in 1810 and fought a bloody insurrection which was brutally put down in dec 1815 but finally prevailed in 1821 when mexico gained independence from spain. also, there was a dengue pandemic in mexico that lasted through 1815 and that too could have motivated its citizens to find greener pastures. in any case, in those days mexico was a very large country much bigger than the usa and included california, texas, and most of what is now the american southwest. all of these territories were lost to the usa in the mexican american wars of the 1840s.
