Why do americans speak english in spanish speaking country?
Im a Mexican and i can speak english and i can read and write in both languages. I dont know why americans have to judge my people so harshly, if any american had to live a day in a mexicans shoes they would regret every negative stereotype they so wholeheartedly laugh at everytime someone else decides to belittle another race.
It annoys me that Americans think that they were the first ones here, that their language is the ony language that can be spoken in the presence of a country made up entirely of immigranats both legal and illegal, no offense to those of you with some common sense but those people are completely and utterly ignorant. Open your eyes and look around its a Brown majority in this country now. Why is it that jobs pay more for bilinguals? That everywhere you go theres always someone that can help you if you cant read english but speak spanish? That school systems are employing more teachers that can speak and teach spanish? Face it America is not an English speaking country, We are America i aqui se habla espanol, oprima numero 2 para hablar con un representativo bilingue.
And just a little reminder, Mexicans arent the only ones that can speak spanish. Think more, think further south.

Well, if you are talking about the USA, you must realize that America is a very multi-cultural country. I think it was back in the early 1900’s I learned in history class that German was spoken more than English was. German could have easily been our main language. Ask your family what your heritage is. I’m sure somewhere in your bloodline there is a background that doesn’t consist of English speaking people.

Asians speak their languages too. So why can’t Mexicans speak that. Besides Americans should learn how to speak Spanish very well then if they want to go to Mexico so everything is equal
umm because they can actually. tho they should at least know english too (im hispanic) but they can speak any language they want. that is the beauty of this country, am i wrong? anyways i love it when i pass by i hear people speaking a different language. I speak English in my home country. Then spanish in my family’s home country (Mexico)
We do not have a national language. It is not easy to learn a new language, especially when you are older…it is more comfortable to speak a native tongue so many native Spanish speakers prefer to do so. The US is considered the "melting pot" most of our ancestors can from another country which may not have spoken English, when they arrived here they had to learn a new language and the family was likely not fluent for a couple of generations.
Do you think that maybe it’s because they are Mexicans – who incidently speak Spanish. Is that too deep for you ?. Ask a Fenchman why he speaks French in an English speaking country. Would you not speak English in France ?

It does take a while to pick up a new language. I’ve noticed they’re often better at picking up English than we are at picking up other languages. My great-grandmother and grandmother came from Mexico.
It took a few years, but they spoke/speak English very well.
Often, Americans on vacation in other countries get miffed if the nationals don’t know English, or expect signs to have English on them. Why are we so high and mighty?
I speak Spanish when I am visiting Spanish speaking countries…..and am treated far better that visitors who don’t.
