Secondly, when you don’t learn a language as a baby, you’ll never pick it up fully.

I agree, The DMV should only be in English. All street names are in English ? If we go to other countries, we know more then the mexicans that are in this country. If you don’t know teach yourself. Most of the world has English as a mandatory language, and other countries even study more languages. Mandatory. %100 Percent Right On !!
Because most Mexican immigrants come to America illegally, and they apparently don’t feel like learning the native language.
So, of course the government steps in and says that everything has to be equal! And wa-la, English-Spanish signs everywhere.
Oh and just because they have a right to bring their ethnic culture doesn’t mean they have a right to make half the signs and bulletins in Spanish.
They don’t have the opportunity to learn English as we do here in the US. Why do so many US citizens have such poor grasp of the English language?

Would we require that of immigrants coming from other countries as well? How would it be funded? How would it be monitored?
This is JUST ONE of the qualifications Mexicans should have.
For the same reason that possibly your grand parents or great-grandparents were allowed to immigrate from Europe. Most people’s families came from Europe….. Germany, Russia, France, Greece, Italy….etc. Not all of them knew how to speak English when they first arrived. No one required them to speak English, and no one printed signs in their native language to make it easy for them, but they soon recognized the importance of being able to speak the language. They also learned to speak the language because they wished to be recognized as an American citizen…….. and speaking the language sure identified them as an American.
Because so many Hispanics are coming to America, it would be better off if Americans learned Spanish instead. Spanish is more widely spoken in the world. The same will happen in the United States. Go with the majority language and learn Spanish!
If you are tired of it……why not learn it? Then you won’t be tired.

Why dont you learn spanish ?

Why? It is the question of this century. Why does our sit on their overpaid butts and do nothing while we have MILLONS of lawbreaking illegal aliens in our country who DEMAND EVERYTHING for nothing all because they were able to sneak across our border in the middle of the night. Then demand that we accomodate their language incapabilites.
If a phone system says press one for English, I take this to mean ENGLISH IS NUMBER ONE!!
Because coming here is already hard enough and how come you wouldn’t ask the Polish people or Guatemalans or others coming in to learn the language? Also, English isn’t even the official language of the U.S. This is a land of immigrants, how would you not expect other languages? If you don’t like seeing it, don’t look at it. Either way, they’re the ones that will look much smarter and still get the jobs for being bilingual. I can see you’ve never had to learn a language or have had problems with immigration, I am guessing you were born in the U.S. right? Don’t take things for granted and stuff doesn’t always have to accommodate to you. It isn’t ‘just that easy’, it’s not like they could sit down for an hour (an hour that they already don’t have) and learn it. And if these people aren’t learning English, how is it that programs such as ‘Ingles Sin Barreras’ sell so much?
P.S. Don’t hate on Tijuana, I bet the people there are much more welcoming than you could in 1000 years.

Legal immigrants usually want to learn english so they don’t end up cleaning toilets for a living.
It’s mostly illegal aliens from Mexico who don’t learn english, mostly because they are arrogant and think they are better than Americans, they have no respect for this country, for our laws, for our border, for our history.
Why don’t we just enforce the laws and deport all the illegal aliens from Mexico, that would get rid of a big part of the problem.
Haven’t you heard? It isn’t politically correct.. English should be the Official Language! It has become Red Dawn just like the movie!

Why do you single out just Mexicans? What about other nationality’s who come here and dont know a damn thing? I think your racist azz needs a reality check. This country is an open land, I do not care what you know or not. You learn as you go. When you start a new job for the first time do you know exactly what to do without being told? I think not. You learn. It is the same as when others come here, they learn. And if having English and Spanish languages present at the same locations is helpful for those who do not know, then we need more of it. And by the way, it ain’t only Spanish translations in many places, look harder next time, you will see lots of languages. I think you are just Pissed because you have a learning problem some how, and try to pass it off on Mexicans who are trying to learn, but can’t because of racist pigs such as yourself complain about everything you can. Grow up!
That would be ideal, would you like to fund free classes held in Mexico for all the potential immigrants to learn English before crossing our border?
Education isn’t free, and learning a new language is extremely difficult and time consuming.
I hope you realize how lucky you are that your life is so easy that you have time to complain about occasionally seeing something written in Spanish.
I have news for you and anyone else who agrees with you: You’re xenophobic, small-minded idiots. We don’t because we’re a FREE country, not a facist state. This is no longer the 20th century when immigrants of that time were either forced to or felt pressure to assimilate thanks in part to the know-nothing movement that took place back then. It’s sad to see history repeating itself, a resurgence of the know-nothing movement.
Why? Because then we would also have to require that your French or German or Russian 85-year-old grandmother who needs to immigrate so that you can take care of her in her declining years, or your handicapped sister-in-law, or your spouse’s abandoned niece whom you need to adopt so she won’t be sold into a brothel, will also have to take English tests before they can get US visas. They will die alone and un-cared-for, and you will blame the US government for being hard-hearted.
